CCA presents Two Awards at Conference 2010

This year CCA presented two awards at the conference. These awards honored outstanding contributions to CCA and the counseling profession in the areas of Service and Leadership to the Association.

The JoAnne Stein Leadership which recognizes the individual leader of CCA or of a CCA division who best exemplifies quality leadership as demonstrated by Joanne Stein, CCA president 1997-1998 was awarded to Marie McCain. Unfortunately, Marie was unable to be present to receive this award, but her accomplishments are chronicled in the following nomination information:

Marie has generously given her time to CCA and CCUCA for many years as the president of CCUCA and as the Committee chair overseeing the Carol Jodaitis Scholarship fund.

My first interaction with Marie was as a student over 10 years ago when she helped me obtain a conference scholarship. She was warm, engaging and helped a new student feel a part of a large professional organization.

Throughout her career, Marie has demonstrated dedication, loyalty and service to CCA and now, as she retires, it is a perfect time to honor her years of service with the Joanne Stein leadership award. Her leadership, dedication and professional expertise have contributed much to the longevity and success of CCA.

The Nina R. Malinak Service Award which recognizes a CCA member who has provided long-standing service to CCA and its divisions as demonstrated by Nina R. Malinak, Executive Director of CCA 2000-2009 was awarded to Myron Cohen.

Myron has generously given his time and considerable talents to CCA, CACES and CSCA for almost forty years in many different capacities. His leadership, mediation abilities, and professional expertise have contributed much to the longevity and success of CCA.

Myron has a long history of service to CCA. He was President of the Connecticut School Counselor Association (1971-1972). For many years, he has served as By-laws Committee Chair and Parliamentarian for both CCA and CSCA. Myron is an active member of CACES and has served as Treasurer since 1992. He continues to be an important presence on the Governing Board of CSCA.

Myron also plays some less visible roles for CCA. As CCA‘s historian, he is the encyclopedia of CCA‘s history and author of Through the Years, the history of CCA from 1927 to 2002. He is currently updating this important document. Myron is a familiar figure at the CCA conference registration tables. His stamina is legendary and he has made the registration and CEU process seamless.

Over the years, Myron has exemplified what service is all about.

Congratulations to both award recipients.
